We were tasked with getting South Africans excited for the new season of Netflix’s global mega-hit show, Stranger Things. But how do we localise and make relevant a show that’s set in America in the 80s with such a distinct style? We bring it to Mzansi.
Collaborating with one of the top illustrators in the country, Carmen Ziervogel, we revamped the classic Stranger Things 80s illustrative style, and brought the characters and the Upside Down world into people’s back gardens by recreating the show with the iconic Table Mountain in Cape Town, and Nelson Mandela Bridge in Johannesburg.
